AI stands for “Artificial Intelegence” which is something society has been using in one form or another for decades now. Think SIRI, ALEXA, Google Assistant and Googles latest entry to the AI market, Gemini. Now it has become more advanced, people are taking note since Elon Musk invested in the early days of Open AI and alot of the experts in AI and the tech world are say AI is here to stay for generation to come. So why is AI so popular? Well, it has countless uses and it saves a crap load of time and reduces human error dramatically.
So how does AI work and how can it benefit the NDIS industry?
AI, put simply, leverages computers and machines to mimic problem solving and decision making. Uh, so basically it is dumbing down society and effectively making us all lazy I hear you say. No, quiet the opposite in fact. We have all heard the saying “Garbage in garbage out” and “A computer is only as smart as its operator”. Well AI works the same way. Just like Google for expample. You need to know what to type into Google to get the answer you are looking for. Well, AI does the same thing. You type in something, it then trolls the internet to find the answer to your enquiry, but that is where Google stops. AI takes it further. AI will troll millions and billions of websites on the internet, extract the information you are looking for and then construct it into a cohesive, coherent document which you can then edit for your specific circumstances. This works for social media content, website content, phone scripts, objection handling, even to write code for websites or computer programs.
Oh Greg, but isnt that cheating? Isnt that copyright? The short answer is yes and no. I am no lawyer but there have been some cases where the use of AI, inparticular ChatGPT, has landed in court and gone either way. That said the general consensous is that Chat GPT is not copyright because it only gives you a summary of a million different websites based on your input, therefore it is your work not copyright. Is it cheating? well, in todays fast paced world of a 24/7 economy, in an industry that operates 24/7 why wouldnt you look for a more efficient way of doing things. Participants will always need some level of support and care no matter what day of the year or time of day.
So what are some of the ways you are using AI or could use AI? I have heard of OT’s using it to write reports and case notes. In marketing you could use AI to write your website copy, a telemarketing script, objection handling, design a brouchure or flier, write your mssion and vision staement for your business, write ad copy when looking for staff. The list is endless, but I am keen to know what is your experience with AI? How are you using AI in your NDIS business to make your systems and processes more effecient or how could you be using it moving forward into 2024?
